Obituary for James Ronald Solberg, Ph.D.

James Ronald Solberg, Ph.D., was born on December 5, 1933 and died in his beloved California on September 1, 2017. His wife, Bonnie MacMillian Solberg was with him at home, where he died peacefully. Bonnie was his inspiration and joy.
Dr. Solberg was a content man and left this world with the feeling of fulfillment. He was proud of his children and grandchildren. He was proud of the people that they had become. Jim was confident that the twins would carry on these qualities. Dr. Solberg had a long life and a varied career path, ranging from a day labourer and cowboy to public school teacher and administrator, college teacher, and lobbyist before state and federal agencies on public utility issues. In every capacity he was striving to improve the quality of life for humankind. Doing so became his mantra.
As a wordsmith, few could match his pen. He thought of himself as a raconteur. Jim's inventory of anecdotes was endless and he was often flattered by compliments about his quick wit and sense of humor. He did not mind being the butt of a joke, for instance, he did not lose his sense of irony when he was introduced as a banquet speaker as “ the man who democratized the natural gas industry”.
We can take solace in Jim Solberg's optimism.
He leaves his children Dr. Mary (Bruce) Hopewell, Chris (Lydia) Solberg, Beth (Ken) Hart, Tom (Stephanie) Solberg, and Mike (Krissie) Hutchins and his grandchildren, Kendra Kern, Erica and Carly Solberg, Courtney, Beckett, and Bradley Hutchins.
Donations are welcomed to National Multiple Sclerosis Society.
